In Monument Ideen Jankowski asks a school class visiting his studio to participate in an artistic activity to discuss art in public space. In the work the class is sent out to become living sculptures upon the pedestal of concrete benches located in a public square. The children were asked to strike poses that expressed important values they hold in their life.
For example, one young boy stood upon the plinth holding the motionless pose of a fisherman to represent time and activity spent with his father. Another, knelt upon her knees reaching forward tenderly and called it ‘A Monument for the Rescue of a Butterfly’. While others pulled the poses of their favorite Manga characters, painters and goalkeepers. These were documented using Polaroid photography which were then returned to the authors hands to create the final works, a series of 7 framed photographs in which you see the hand of a child raising the photograph of their respective performative sculpture against the background of a white wall.
