In a follow-up to My Life as a Dove (1996), Jankowski invited then director of the Kunstverein in Hamburg, Stephan Schmidt-Wulffen, to be transformed into an animal of his choice for the duration of the exhibition Body Check. The director chose to become a poodle. A cruise ship magician performed the transformation at the exhibition’s opening, following which the press was forced to direct all questions to the director, a poodle. Schmidt-Wulffen, in poodle form, was then filmed and photographed going about his work for the next three days, trotting between his desk and the exhibition space.
