Concept
-2013-
These sculptures consist of weightlifting plates stacked on top of and next to one another. The combined weight of the plates is equivalent to the weight of the monument that gives its name to each corresponding sculpture: the monument to Pope John Paul II at Grzybowski Square in Warsaw and the sculpture shown each weigh an impressive 1,450 kg. The monument and the sculpture for Napoleon, however, are proportionally »light« in comparison – 850 kg. The color of each weightlifting plate corresponds to a standard-size weight. Significant planning is required in order to place such heavy weights in an exhibition space, so their positioning was based on exact calculations by structural engineers. How much history can the exhibition space bear?
